A Trip back in time:

For an even more unforgettable trip, there is a  steam version of the Train des Pignes which runs from May until October. It is advisable to book ahead. Legends around the mythical Train des Pignes:

There are several legends about the origin of the name of this tourist train:

The first is from the soot which covered the locomotives and made them look like the bottom of Nicois saucepans, saucepans which are known as Pignates!

The second stems from the train’s speed, which was so slow that it allowed travellers to get off the train and pick up « Pignes » (Pine cones in Nissart dialect)
